The British and US ambassadors to Lebanon met with Lebanese Army Commander Joseph Aoun at the 2nd Land Border Regiment headquarters to discuss progress on Syria border security, Lebanon’s Naharnet reported Tuesday (July 16th).
Following the meeting with Aoun and US Ambassador Elizabeth Richard, British Ambassador Chris Rampling said the barracks "played a significant role in operations against the 'Islamic State of Iraq and Syria' and al-Nusra Front".
This ultimately led to the success of Operation Fajr al-Juroud, he said.
"Our visit today to discuss the progress on the security of the Lebanese-Syrian border exemplifies the trust in the Lebanese Armed Forces and how they have managed to ensure state control of the border with Syria," he said.
Rampling said he had reiterated the UK’s steadfast support to Lebanon via ongoing social, economic, educational and humanitarian projects, in addition to further support to the Lebanese Armed Forces and other security agencies.
The Lebanese forces remain the country's sole legitimate defender, he said.
"We remain proud partners of the Lebanese army and we look forward to strengthening our military and security relations even further," he said.
