Al-Sisi calls on Arab states to invest in youth, combat extremism

Egypt's president said Monday (April 22nd) an ambitious and gradual action plan should be developed to put the Arab strategy on investing in youth potential and combating extremism into force, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's remarks came as he and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi received Arab ministers of youth and sports, calling on them to develop the sporting, social and cultural levels of young people and raise their awareness about challenges facing their countries.

Young people account for a large percentage of the Arab population, so their potential should be tapped, al-Sisi said.

He stressed the need to protect young people against attempts to exploit them to destroy their own countries through extremist thought and ideologies.

The meeting included an open dialogue and sharing of visions on the experience of Arab countries in fighting extremism, said presidential spokesman Bassam Radi.
