Egypt keeps lower school fees for Syrians, Yemenis

Egypt's Ministry of Education has renewed a decision exempting Syrian and Yemeni students enrolled in Egyptian schools from paying a higher fee to attend schools in the upcoming academic year, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported Sunday (July 15th).

The ministry said in a statement on Sunday that Syrians and Yemenis are not required to pay the higher fee imposed on other foreign nationals, given the hardships they have faced due to the ongoing civil wars in their home countries.

The ministry has been charging Syrian and Yemeni students the same fees paid by Egyptian students since the 2017/18 academic year.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, there are 129,507 Syrian and 6,810 Yemeni refugees in Egypt.
