EU ambassadors visit Jordan's Karak in solidarity

EU ambassadors on Thursday (March 16th) visited Jordan's Karak in a show of solidarity and to show the kingdom and its southern governorate is safe and secure, the Jordan Times reported.

Tourism Minister Lina Annab said Karak Castle had resumed active tourism activities since the deadly December 18th attack, describing the attack as a one-time incident that any country or city in the world could face.

The "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed seven security personnel, two civilians and one tourist. Four of the assailants were killed.

The castle reopened to visitors on January 5th.

The visit of 13 EU ambassadors to the historic Karak Castle was an important message that Jordan and its tourist attractions enjoy peace and stability, Annab said.

EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana said that the visit of solidarity with Karak residents shows that Jordan is a safe country and called on EU nationals to visit the castle.

The tragedy of people in the Arab north of Yemen is caused by al-Houthi gangs and the gangs of the ousted [President]. It is very important to focus on Sanaa and Saada, which are the biggest stronghold of al-Houthi and the ousted. Meanwhile, the coastal al-Hodeidah, Taiz and Hajjah provinces should also be taken into consideration as they contain hideouts of the pro-Iran al-Houthi and the gangs of the ousted Affash Sanhan. They must be cleared of al-Houthis and of the ousted as they threaten international navigation at Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
