Jordan's historic Karak castle reopened to visitors on Thursday (January 5th) after 18 days of closure following December’s terror attack, the Jordan Times reported.
Seven security personnel, two civilians and one tourist were killed in the December 18th attack , claimed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL). Four attackers also were killed.
Karak Department of Antiquities director Khaled Tarawneh said the castle started receiving visitors on Thursday morning after increased security precautions were taken.
The directorate, in co-operation with security agencies, had reorganised the entry process to ensure safety, he said.
A number of local residents expressed their happiness at the reopening of the castle, and stressed that Jordan will remain defiant in the face of terrorism, according to the Jordanian news agency, Petra.
