Egyptian, US and UAE naval and air forces have been taking part in a joint military drill, "Eagle Salute - Eagle Response 2019" that kicked off Monday (July 22nd) in the Red Sea, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
Saudi Arabia is participating in the exercises as an observer, the Egyptian Armed Forces said in a statement.
Various units from the Egyptian, US and UAE naval forces are taking part in the exercise in Egypt's territorial waters, using frigates, missile-launching boats and mine hunters.
Special naval units, the coast guard, and F-16 fighter jets are taking part in the joint drill.
The drill was preceded by a joint conference and theoretical lectures for the participating forces in order to establish strong cohesion and communication among them and unify their operational concepts before they began.
Egyptian and US special forces began the drill by conducting a search of a ship.
The exercise aims to strengthen co-operation among the participating forces, share knowledge of military systems and techniques, and strengthen the efforts to achieve naval security and stability in the region, the statement said.
