Chairman of Jordan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat on Thursday (April 11th) presided over the closing session of the latest US-Jordan Joint Military Commission meetings, the Jordan Times reported.
The forum enables senior US and Jordanian government and military officials to discuss ongoing security assistance and co-operation and develop plans for their security partnership, according to the US State Department.
The closing session was held at the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) headquarters, with Acting Assistant Secretary of Defence for International Security Affairs Kathryn Wheelbarger in attendance on the US side.
Freihat thanked the US for its continuous support of Jordan, and stressed the "depth of strategic and fraternal relations that the two countries share".
He said the Jordanian and US militaries would continue co-operating in pursuit of regional and international peace and security.
"Jordan holds a special place in the eyes of the US, and the continuation of co-operation between the two countries is a strategic priority," Wheelbarger said.
The meetings, held over two days, aimed to enhance the frameworks of co-operation, collective efforts and the exchange of military expertise between the two countries, and looked at ways to bolster US-military support to the JAF.
A number of high-ranking Jordanian and US military officials attended the closing session.
