Egyptian security forces have killed 11 suspected extremists in a shootout in the border North Sinai region, Egypt's Ahram Online reported Thursday (April 11th).
The suspects were members of a terror cell in the provincial capital of al-Arish and were planning to carry out attacks on police and army forces in a number of vital areas, the interior ministry said in a statement.
The shootout broke out as security forces conducted a raid on the suspects' hideout.
On Tuesday, seven people, including four policemen, were killed when a suicide bomber targeted police near a market in the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid.
The "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) claimed the attack.
