Over the past few days, Jordan’s Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) has arrested 25 drug dealers across the kingdom and has thwarted a drug smuggling attempt, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported Monday (October 22nd).
AND followed up on intelligence about a group who had hidden a large quantity of narcotic pills inside a vehicle, intending to smuggle them outside the kingdom, said Public Security Department media spokesman Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi.
The identity of those involved was verified, he said, and 28,000 narcotic pills were found hidden in the vehicle when it was searched.
The move came as part of a special security campaign AND carried out over the past few days in Aqaba, during which four drug dealers were arrested and various quantities of drugs were seized, he said.
In the Madaba governorate, four palm-sized sheets of hashish were found in the possession of two suspects after they were tracked for possessing and promoting narcotic substances.
Five other drug dealers were arrested in Amman, Ajloun and Zarqa governorates.
Sartawi said the suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecutor general after investigations were completed.
