Egypt swore in a new cabinet before President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday (June 14th) as he begins his second term, appointing new ministers for the key defence, interior and finance posts, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
The new cabinet replaces a government that submitted its resignation last week. The outgoing cabinet's housing minister, Mostafa Madbouly, was appointed prime minister and tasked by al-Sisi to form the government.
The new cabinet includes 12 new ministers out of 32 in total. The foreign, justice and investment and tourism ministers all retained their positions, as did some economy-related ministers.
Mohamed Ahmed Zaki was named minister of defence, while Mahmoud Tawfik was appointed interior minister. Mohamed Maeet was appointed finance minister, while Amr Nassar was named minister of trade and industry.
Ashraf Sobhy, who served as assistant to the sports minister, and assistant health minister Hala Zayed were both appointed ministers.
Other appointments included new ministers for communications, agriculture, civil aviation, environment, local development and public enterprise.
The new cabinet has seen the addition of two new female ministers for the environment and health portfolios, bringing the total number of women in this government to eight.
Fifteen new ministry deputies were also appointed in the new government, including those of finance, electricity and housing.
