Egypt’s Ministry of Education on Tuesday (May 1st) announced it has cancelled end-of-year exams for middle school students in North Sinai, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported Wednesday.
The ministry said it has approved the transference of first semester test results to constitute students' final aggregate grade for academic year 2017/2018.
The second semester in North Sinai schools has now been cancelled, according to the ministry.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Khairy said the decision comes out of the ministry’s concern for the future of students in North Sinai.
The move comes as Egyptian forces press on with Operation Sinai 2018, targeting the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) and other extremists in north and central Sinai and elsewhere in Egypt.
