Egypt's administrative prosecution has ordered an urgent investigation into a Sunday (April 29th) blaze at the construction site of the Grand Egyptian Museum, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported Monday.
The flames engulfed scaffolding used by construction workers at the rear of the museum, which is still under construction, prosecution spokesman Mohamed Samir said in a Monday statement.
"Full technical reports on the causes of the fire will be handed to officials as soon as the investigations are completed," the statement said.
The probe will begin immediately, Samir said, with the aim of holding officials accountable for the incident, as well as determining the scale of any losses.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, with no casualties reported, and no damage to antiquities or museum facilities, according to the Ministry of Antiquities.
The museum, near the Giza pyramids, will house some of the nation's most unique and precious artefacts. A partial opening is planned for later in the year.
