Egyptian forces killed four extremists in northern and central Sinai as part of the ongoing Operation Sinai 2018, army spokesman Tamer al-Rifaie said in a Wednesday (February 21st) statement.
According to the statement, the armed forces also arrested 112 wanted criminal elements and destroyed 13 vehicles, four hideouts and 350 weapons caches, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
"The army targeted and destroyed a communication centre used by terrorists," the statement said.
Army engineers also uncovered and diffused 41 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which had been planted to target security forces during operations, and the army's artillery targeted 179 terrorist sites, the statement added.
Al-Rifaie’s statement is the 11th military communiqué on the sweeping counter-terrorism operation, which involves land, naval and air forces, as well as the police and border guards, since it began on February 9th.
