Jordan army thwarts cross-border drug smuggling attempt

A military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces on Monday (December 25th) said an eastern military zone unit, in co-ordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department, thwarted an alleged drug smuggling attempt, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported.

According to the source, eight people allegedly tried to trespass from Syria to Jordan, where security personnel applied the rules of engagement, leading to their retreat to Syria.

After searching the area, nine bags containing 50,000 Tramadol pills, 1.63 million Captagon pills, 49 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 118 rounds of Kalashnikov ammunition were reportedly seized and transferred to the concerned authorities.
