Egyptian forces have discovered and diffused an improvised explosive device (IED) loaded with 250 kilogrammes of explosives in the Abu al-Hassien area of Bir al-Abd, North Sinai, Egypt’s Ahram Online reported Tuesday (December 5th).
Security forces have cordoned off the area where they located the IED, which had been placed inside a barrel loaded with explosives planted on the coastal al-Arish and Kantara road, the interior ministry said in a statement.
"Police forces are currently combing the area after safely detonating the IED," the statement said.
Bir al-Abd was the scene of the worst terrorist attack in Egypt’s recent memory on November 24th, when militants attacked worshippers at al-Rawda Mosque, killing 311 people.
