Egyptian police killed 13 "terrorists" in a shootout as they raided a hideout in the country's south on Friday (October 27th), a week after a deadly ambush that killed 16 policemen, AFP reported.
The operation, in which assault rifles and explosive belts were recovered, took place at a farm used by the militants for training and recruitment, the interior ministry said in a statement.
"Organisational material and religious books" also were found at the site, the ministry said, which is some 300 kilometres away from the site of the October 20th desert ambush that killed 16 policemen.
It was not clear whether the militants killed in the Friday shootout were suspected of involvement in the October 20th ambush.
According to Egypt’s Ahram Online, the Friday shootout occurred near the 175-kilometre mark on the Wahat highway in al-Wadi al-Jadid governorate.
