A "wanted terrorist" was killed in a shootout on Tuesday (April 18th) morning during a police raid in the northern coastal governorate of Damietta, Egypt's Ahram Online reported.
The incident occurred when police raided a militant hideout in Kafr Saad village, state-run news agency MENA said, with one police officer injured in the resulting shootout.
The source said that the shootout began when the terrorist fired at police officers as they attempted to arrest him, forcing police to return fire.
On Sunday, the Interior Ministry said it has arrested 13 people reportedly involved in a terrorist cell aiming to launch attacks against churches in Egypt.
The announcement of the arrests came a week after two suicide bombings claimed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) hit St. George's Cathedral in Tanta and St. Mark's Cathedral in Alexandria, killing 47 people and injuring dozens more during Palm Sunday services.
The suspected militants were arrested in the governorates of Alexandria, Damietta and Kafr el-Sheikh.
