Three Egyptian civilians – two of them children – were killed and two were injured Monday (March 20th) in an explosion in central Sinai, Egyptian media reported.
Security sources in North Sinai told Ahram Online that the victims' car had exploded while passing through Wadi al-Garayeh, saying the explosion was caused by a land mine.
Land mines constitute a serious problem in Egypt's Western Desert and in the Sinai peninsula, where they remain after a series of 20th century wars.
Egypt Independent reported that a missile had caused the deadly Wadi al-Garayeh blast.
The injured were transferred to Suez public hospital for treatment, while the victims were taken to Nekhl central hospital, it said.
