Gunmen killed eight police late Monday (January 16th) in an attack on a checkpoint in New Valley governorate in south-west Egypt, AFP reported.
Two of the attackers were killed when security forces fought back, and three other security personnel were injured, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
The attack took place at al-Naqab checkpoint, about 80 kilometres from the provincial capital of al-Kharga city in Egypt's Western Desert, the ministry said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
