Egypt’s interior ministry said on Monday (November 12th) it has foiled an attack on a security checkpoint in North Sinai’s al-Arish, Egypt's state news agency MENA reported.
The police’s central security forces thwarted the attempted suicide bombing at a checkpoint on the ring road in al-Arish, Ahram Online reported.
Egypt has been battling extremists in North Sinai for several years. Terror attacks have mostly targeted security forces, particularly at military and police checkpoints.
Egypt launched Operation Sinai 2018 in February to target "terrorist and criminal elements and organisations" in northern and central Sinai, as well as parts of the Nile Delta and the Western Desert.
More than 450 extremists have been killed since the launch of the operation.
