Jordan's King Abdullah on Sunday (January 8th) directed Joint Chiefs-of-Staff chairman Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Freihat to establish a fund to support the families of army and security personnel who died in the line of duty, the Jordan Times reported.
Five million Jordanian dinars ($7 million) from the Royal Court budget will be donated to finance the fund, which is designed to enhance the current support provided to those families.
Abdullah commended the performance of Jordanian army units and soldiers and highlighted the importance of government support for the fund, noting that the private sector also will be invited to contribute to the fund.
The king issued directives to include the families of those who died in the line of duty as beneficiaries from the Military Credit Fund’s financing services, with loans exempted from interest.
He also issued directives to further activate the role of the Economic and Social Association of Retired Servicemen and Veterans through revisiting its law and structure, building its own credit profiles and supporting the projects of retired servicemen and helping them find decent jobs.
