Two Egyptian military personnel and six militants were killed in the fourth day of a new ground and air campaign to target extremist fighters in North Sinai, Egypt's Ahram Online reported Wednesday (October 19th).
Egyptian air forces and artillery pounded seven militant hideouts on Tuesday, and damaged 16 havens and arms caches used by extremist fighters, the military said in a statement.
The raids left six militants and two soldiers dead, it added.
Since Friday, when 12 Egyptian soldiers were killed in an attack on a checkpoint west of al-Arish that sparked the ongoing operation, the army said it has killed more than 50 militants.
Meanwhile, President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Tuesday extended a state of emergency in designated areas of the North Sinai governorate for three more months starting October 31st.
