Yemeni forces killed a suspected local al-Qaeda chief Monday (September 26th) during a clash at his house in Abyan province, AFP reported.
A Yemeni soldier also died and another was wounded after troops stormed the residence of an alleged extremist fighter, identified as Abdullah Hubaibat, on the outskirts of the town of Loder, security officials said.
Two other suspected extremists were wounded in the fight, while a third was arrested, they said.
Yemeni forces backed by the coalition entered Abyan's capital Zinjibar last month and recaptured other towns across the province.
The coalition also has been providing Yemeni troops with air cover throughout their war against al-Qaeda and the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL).
