Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Mulki and Iraqi Transport Minister Kathem Hamami on Thursday (September 22nd) discussed the Iraqi cabinet's recent decision to form a committee to begin the process of reopening land borders between the countries, the Jordan Times reported.
Jordan's borders with Syria and Iraq have been closed due to security conditions.
Hamami also was scheduled to visit the Safwan border crossing between Iraq and Kuwait on Thursday, which Jordanian trucks have been using to export goods to Iraq after the closure of Iraq’s Trebil border crossing with Jordan.
He pledged to solve all obstacles facing Jordanian exports to Baghdad, and lower customs fees, according to the Jordanian news agency, Petra.
Mulki and Hamami also discussed ways for Iraq to benefit from Jordan's Aqaba port, with the goal of making it the main trade route between the two countries.
