Doctors Without Borders (MSF) on Thursday (July 21st) urged Jordan to evacuate wounded Syrians who have been trapped along its northeastern border since June, AFP reported.
Jordan closed the frontier after a June 21st suicide bombing claimed by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) killed seven soldiers near a makeshift desert camp where more than 100,000 Syrian refugees are blocked.
The measure has prevented aid groups from helping the refugees.
"Until they have renewed access to Jordan, [refugees] will be unable to receive the lifesaving medical care they desperately need," the medical charity's head of mission in Jordan Luis Eguiluz warned.
MSF, which has opened a surgical department in the town of Ramtha, five kilometres from the border, urged Jordan to allow "the medical evacuation of war-wounded Syrians".
The International Committee of the Red Cross issued a separate appeal to the international community to come to the aid of the trapped refugees, saying they are "in need of urgent assistance" and "living in extremely harsh conditions".
In early July, Jordan, which already hosts hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, agreed to a one-off aid delivery for those trapped on its border.
