Yemeni forces oust Houthis from al-Durayhimi

Joint forces fighting in support of Yemen's government on the war's Red Sea front on Tuesday (August 14th) seized al-Hodeidah province's al-Durayhimi district from the Iran-backed Houthis (Ansarallah).

Pro-government forces also seized large quantities of weapons in the Houthis’ possession, according to local media reports.

In a statement carried by local media, 2nd Giant Brigade's vice-chief of operations Col. Ahmed al-Juhaili said Yemeni forces had "fully secured al-Durayhimi after conducting a large-scale combing operation in the area".

"Our forces will proceed with their advance towards al-Hodeidah," he added.

The Houthis’ use of al-Durayhimi residents as human shields has delayed the resolution of the battle, said Mohammed Anaam, former editor of General People’s Congress mouthpiece al-Mithaq.

"The Houthis have lost many of their commanders on the coastal front, including the [top] commander himself, and many of their fighters," he told Al-Mashareq.

"The Houthis’ battle on the coast is a suicide [mission], and the proof is their consecutive loss of districts," he added.

Anaam called on joint forces on the Red Sea front to tighten security in the districts under their control to protect residents against retaliatory strikes by the Houthis, pointing to the militia's targeting of al-Tuhayat and Hays residents.

Taez governor survives assassination attempt

Taez governor Ahmed Mahmoud on Tuesday (August 14th) escaped an assassination attempt involving a roadside bomb in Aden's Enma neighbourhood, which wounded a number of his companions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ahmed al-Misri instructed the security agencies in Aden to open an investigation into the crime, which targeted the Taez governor's motorcade, and to identify and arrest perpetrators.

Local media quoted al-Misri reiterating his ministry’s determination to uproot terrorism once and for all, and to eliminate its cells and sources of financing.

He also urged security agencies to increase their vigilance in order to protect the security and stability of the legitimate government's interim capital.
