Lebanon army support, Hizbullah on al-Hariri’s US agenda

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri began a visit to the US on Monday (August 12th), during which he will meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Asharq Al-Awsat and Lebanese media reported.

Al-Hariri will meet with a number of US officials to update them on the situation in Lebanon and to hear their point of view before meeting with Pompeo on Thursday, an adviser to the prime minister said.

The Hizbullah issue is expected to top the agenda, amid mounting US pressure on the group’s leaders, networks and financial activities, in the US, Lebanon and elsewhere.

US support for the Lebanese Army also is expected to be discussed, as the US has placed great importance on maintaining the security of the border areas between Lebanon and Syria.
