Argentina's government on Thursday (July 18th) designated Hizbullah a terrorist organisation and froze its assets, Lebanese and international media reported.
The announcement came as the nation held memorial services on the 25th anniversary of a bombing blamed on the Lebanese militia that destroyed a Jewish community centre in Buenos Aires, killing 85 people.
Argentina's Financial Information Unit took the action a day after the government of President Mauricio Macri created a list of terrorist organisations to help co-ordinate actions with other nations.
The unit said Hizbullah also has been accused of responsibility for a 1992 attack on the Israeli Embassy in Argentina that killed 29 people, and 1994 attack on the Argentine-Israelite Mutual Association in Buenos Aires.
"At the present time, Hizbullah continues to represent a current and active threat to national security and the integrity of the financial, economic order of the Argentine Republic," the unit said.
