Direct flights will begin on June 3rd between the Jordanian city of Aqaba and the Egyptian cities of Cairo and Sharm el-Sheikh, the Jordan Times reported Monday (May 27th).
The direct flights will contribute to increasing the number of visitors to Aqaba, according to Khalil Farrayeh, spokesman for the state-run Aqaba Development Corporation.
"This will ease the pressure on the sea movement for Egyptian workers and give them another option to travel back home by air," he said.
"This will also enable them to visit Egypt from time to time instead of waiting for a long time, as these flights are affordable trips," he added.
Two flights a week will be operated, Farrayeh said, voicing hope that two million passengers will use Aqaba airport this year.
These flights will boost the number of tourists to Aqaba, he said.
