The International Labour Organisation and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees on Sunday (February 18th) opened the first centre for employment at Jordan's Azraq refugee camp, the Jordan Times reported.
The centre aims to facilitate access to official work opportunities in Jordan.
Azraq Centre for Employment (ACE) will allow refugees to obtain a one month leave and work permit to pursue employment opportunities across the kingdom.
The centre, launched under the patronage of Labour Minister Ali Ghezawi with the support of the Dutch government, also will offer counselling services, information on labour rights, training opportunities and job matching services.
The new facility also will support the implementation of the Jordan Compact Programme, aimed at creating jobs for a total of 200,000 Syrian refugees.
Ministry of Labour Secretary General Hani Khleifat expressed his hopes "for all Syrian refugees to find opportunities", noting that the ministry has issued more than 87,000 work permits for Syrian refugees in Jordan since 2016.
The centre's launch was accompanied by the first in a series of job fairs to be held at the camp, drawing 24 companies seeking to fill 850 job openings in the manufacturing, agriculture and service sectors.
