Iran deploys Iraqi PMF, Afghan mercenaries to quell protests

Iran has deployed members of the Iraqi Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) to suppress the ongoing anti-regime protests, Al-Arabiya reported Thursday (January 4th).

According to sources in Ahwaz, the forces have been deployed alongside Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and security forces in the streets of Abadan and Khorramshahr and in al-Thawra neighborhood in Ahwaz.

Opposition website Amad News said, via one of its Telegram channels, that the IRGC also brought thousands of Afghan mercenaries from the Fatemiyoun Brigade who are fighting in Syria, and deployed them in the city of Khomeyni Shahr in Isfahan to suppress the protests.
