The crown prince of Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (December 6th) paid a public visit to Ahmed Ali Abdullah Saleh, the son of Yemen's former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and a potential successor, AFP reported.
A photo posted on Mohammed bin Zayed's Twitter account showed the Emirati sheikh offering condolences to Ahmed Saleh at his Abu Dhabi residence.
The Yemeni ex-president's son had been under house arrest in the UAE since his father forged an alliance with the Iran-backed Houthis (Ansarallah) in 2014.
The UAE is a member of the Arab coalition which intervened in the Yemen war in 2015 with the aim of expelling the Houthis from Sanaa.
Houthi fighters killed Saleh, their onetime ally, on Monday, two days after he announced he was open to talks with the coalition.
The meeting between Saleh's son and the crown prince, deputy commander of the UAE forces, raises the profile of the Yemeni politician, whose presence in the UAE was long kept quiet.
Meanwhile, two groups of Yemeni women held protests in Sanaa on Wednesday, demanding that the Houthis hand over Saleh’s body.
It was unclear whether the Houthis had already buried Saleh's body.
