Yemeni forces clash with Houthis in southwest

At least 15 Houthis and eight Yemeni soldiers were killed Monday (July 17th) as Yemeni forces attacked the Houthis' positions in two areas in the south-west of the country, AFP reported.

Yemeni forces attacked the Houthis (Ansarallah) and their allies on the road linking the city of Taez with al-Hodeida port on the Red Sea coast, military officials said.

The attack, backed by coalition warplanes, aimed to block the road leading to the port, which is held by the Houthis, officials said.

The second attack targeted Houthis in al-Hameli area, north of the port of Mokha, which was recaptured by Yemeni forces in February as part of an ongoing offensive to drive the Houthis from the Red Sea coastline.

Several soldiers were wounded in the clashes, officials said.
