Saudis killed in car blast wanted for police murders: ministry

Two Saudi suspects killed earlier this month when their car exploded in the kingdom’s Eastern Province were wanted for murdering police officers, the interior ministry said Wednesday (June 14th).

DNA testing identified Fadil al-Hamada and Mohammed al-Suwaimil, both Saudis, as the men who died on June 1st in Qatif city, AFP reported.

The ministry said al-Hamada and others were involved in the killings of 10 members of the Saudi security forces over the past two years in the Dammam and Qatif areas.

Al-Suwaimil was linked to two of those killings, a ministry statement said.

Officers took "necessary action" after spotting their stolen vehicle, the ministry said at the time. "As a result, it caught fire and exploded," killing the two occupants.

The vehicle was found to contain weapons and explosive material, the ministry said Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the kingdom, a Saudi border guard died Tuesday in a landmine blast in the kingdom's south-western Jazan district along the frontier with Yemen, the ministry said.
