Iraqi forces are now less than 400 metres away from al-Nuri mosque where the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi delivered his speech in which he announced his 'caliphate', Joint Iraqi Operations Command spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahiya al-Zubaidi said Thursday (May 25th).
“Dozens of ISIS elements are now besieged there,” he said.
“Three roads around the mosque and the historical minaret, al-Hadbaa, have been retaken on Thursday, and we are now reinforcing our positions before advancing towards the Old City area,” al-Zubaidi told Diyaruna.
