Egypt’s Armed Forces foiled on Monday (May 8th) an attempt to smuggle arms into the country through its western border with Libya, Ahram Online reported.
The Egyptian army received intelligence that a large number of vehicles was in the process of crossing into Egypt, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defense.
Based on the intelligence, Egypt’s air forces launched a reconnaissance operation on the border and immediately targeted the convoy as it attempted to cross into Egypt.
The army destroyed 15 vehicles carrying arms and ammunitions.
Egyptian air forces and border guards continue to search for the smugglers.
