Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Thursday (January 5th) met with relatives of the servicemen kidnapped by the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) , Lebanese media reported.
The meeting was held in the presence of General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim, the National News Agency reported.
Aoun assured the relatives he would raise the issue with Arab leaders during his upcoming tour to Arab countries.
"We will continue our endeavors until the fate of the servicemen is clarified. We will spare no effort in that regard," he said.
Ibrahim said the new president is following up on the file "on a daily basis".
ISIL and al-Nusra Front (ANF), also known as Fatah al-Sham Front, abducted more than 30 servicemen in clashes with the Lebanese army in the border town of Arsal in August 2014.
Sixteen were freed in December last year. The two groups had previously executed four of the hostages. Nine hostages are still being held by ISIL.
