Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri is poised to re-assume his post this week after securing the support of most of the country’s major political blocs, Lebanese media reported Wednesday (November 2nd).
Hariri's nomination has been endorsed by his Future Movement, the Free Patriotic Movement, the Lebanese Forces and Lebanese MP Walid Jumblatt’s bloc, in addition to a number of independent lawmakers, the Daily Star reported.
The move comes after Lebanon's parliament on Monday elected former general Michel Aoun president, ending a power vacuum and political stalemate of more than two years .
Hours after his election as Lebanon’s 13th president, Aoun scheduled Wednesday and Thursday for meetings with political leaders and heads of parliamentary blocs to discuss the appointment of the next Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's King Salman has joined regional leaders in congratulating Aoun on his election, stressing the kingdom's support for "Lebanon and its unity", the official Saudi Press Agency reported.
