Four Egyptian soldiers have been killed during operations against the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), AFP reported Sunday (October 30th).
The soldiers were killed during operations around al-Arish in North Sinai, army spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Samir said.
Six extremist fighters were killed during the same operation and others were arrested, he said.
In a separate incident in al-Arish, three policemen and three civilians were wounded when a suicide bomber detonated a car bomb near a security convoy, the interior ministry said.
The authorities are checking body parts found at the scene that officials suspect are the remains of the bomber, the ministry said.
ISIL affiliate Wilayat Sinai claimed the attack in a statement posted on social media.
The latest attacks came as Egypt on Monday marked a year since a Russian plane was downed over Sinai, killing all 224 people on board, in an attack claimed by ISIL.
