Kuwait has further work to do to combat the financing of extremists, a top Kuwaiti official said Monday (October 24th) at a meeting aimed at choking off funding for the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL), AFP reported.
"We still have a lot to do, though we are satisfied with what we have done so far," Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled al-Jarallah said on the sidelines of a meeting of the Counter-ISIL Finance Group (CIFG) in Kuwait City.
Formed early last year, the CIFG is led by Saudi Arabia, Italy and the US and is made up of more than 35 countries and four international bodies.
Al-Jarallah said Kuwait "has come a long way in introducing legislation that controls the collection of (charity) donations", a suspected channel of funding extremists.
The CIFG takes a global approach to undermining the flow of funds to ISIL, with the meeting in Kuwait intended to share information and continue developing and co-ordinating counter measures against ISIL's global financial activity.
