Suicide bombers on Monday (July 18th) attacked two army checkpoints in a former stronghold of al-Qaeda in southeastern Yemen, killing 11 people, AFP reported.
One attacker drove his bomb-laden truck into a checkpoint in a western district of Hadramaut's provincial capital of al-Mukalla, security officials said.
The second attacker simultaneously blew up his vehicle at an army checkpoint in the nearby town of Hajr, some 15 kilometres to the west of al-Mukalla, the sources said.
Eleven people were killed, including four civilians, and 18 were wounded in the twin bombings, said al-Mukalla health department head Riad Jariri.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.
On Saturday, an airstrike hit a vehicle carrying three al-Qaeda suspects in Shabwa province, killing all three, security officials said.
