Yemen clashes continue as UN envoy arrives

Fighting continued between Yemen's warring parties in the west of the country Wednesday (July 14th) as the UN's mediator arrived in Sanaa, AFP reported.

UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed arrived Wednesday afternoon to meet with the Houthis, after meeting with Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi in Riyadh earlier this week to prepare for a resumption of talks between the two sides in Kuwait on Friday.

Kuwait has already hosted more than two months of UN-backed negotiations.

The talks were suspended at the end of June, and fighting has persisted despite a truce that came into force on April 11th.

On Wednesday, pro-Hadi forces seized a mountain base from the Houthis in Nahm, northeast of Sanaa, said military spokesman Abdullah al-Shandaqi.

Eight pro-Hadi fighters and 17 Houthis were killed in the battle, he told AFP.

The Saudis and Hadi’s supporters have failed. Dozens of them have been killed, and all the vehicles that were used in the offensive have been destroyed. The supporters of Houthis and Saleh have gained a lot of war spoils. Nothing is hidden from the people!
