ISIL cell admits assassination and terror acts in Lebanon

An "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) cell arrested last week in Khirbet Daoud in Lebanon's Akkar district has confessed to carrying out sniper operations targeting military vehicles and an assassination, Lebanese media reported Monday (June 6th).

One of the detainees, Jassem Saadeddine confessed to the assassination last year of Badr Eid, the brother of late MP Ali Eid in an ambush on al-Kwaykhat-al-Hisa road in Akkar.

Members of the cell also said they had targeted military vehicles with sniper operations.

The cell carried out operations over a four-year period before being apprehended.

On Sunday, the Lebanese army raided another cell in the eastern town of Majdal Anjar, arresting two suspects and seizing a quantity of weapons, including an explosives belt.
