A campaign aimed at promoting a culture of peace and rejection of extremism kicked off in Hadramaut’s provincial capital of al-Mukalla on Saturday (September 23rd), in celebration of the International Day of Peace.

Campaign activities include field visits to schools, institutes and residential areas, and art shows and educational lectures aimed at shedding light on the importance of civil peace and rejection of intolerance.

"The objective is to spread a culture of love and peace, and enhance the values of civil peace in society, reconciliation and tolerance among people," said Khalil al-Nubi, the ambassador of peace at Aroptia, the initiative organising these events.

Stability and equality for all will help overcome the manifestations of violence and intolerance, he said.

Events on combating extremism and violence help bring about stability by positively impacting youth and children, said al-Mukalla director Awad bin Hamel.

"Al-Mukalla will in the coming period organise large-scale activities featuring visual aids and pictures which promote peace and the rejection of extremism, violence and terrorism," he told Al-Mashareq.

These activities will show the negative consequences of terrorism on individuals and society, he said.

"The use of visual aids has its own mark on the minds of recipients, especially students," said bin Hamel.

The campaign will also feature lectures at mosques, he said, adding that "terrorism has caused destruction and devastation to the whole of Yemen and not just al-Mukalla".
