Egypt's Defence Minister Mohamed Zaki on Sunday (November 18th) inspected the counter-terrorism centre in Cairo of the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), Egypt’s Ahram Online reported.
The centre was established pursuant to the recommendations of the 2016 CEN-SAD meetings in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.
Zaki was given a detailed presentation on the centre, constructed on 61,900 square metres and equipped with advanced equipment and technologies.
Egypt's Armed Forces finished setting up the counter-terrorism centre in June.
The centre aims to improve counter-terrorism co-operation and bolster security, economic and political ties between member countries.
The Community of Sahel-Saharan States aims to boost regional security, economic co-operation and sustainable development within member states.
Member states agreed to carry out regular counter-terrorism exercises during their latest summit in 2017 in Ivory Coast.
