Lebanon army kills ISIL element in Akkar

The Lebanese army killed an "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL) element in an exchange of gunfire in Akkar district, Lebanese media reported Tuesday (September 27th).

An army patrol killed Moustapha Mohammad al-Ahmad, known as Moustapha Awad, at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday in the border village of Kneisseh when he opened fire as the army attempted to arrest him for belonging to ISIL, the Army Command Guidance Directorate said in a statement.

"The army was compelled to fire back at the militant which caused his death," the statement said.

Al-Ahmad was wanted on a number of charges, including trading and possessing weapons, Lebanon's National News Agency reported.
