Steps agreed to connect Gulf, EU power grids through Jordan

Jordan, Egypt and the Gulf Co-operation Council Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) on Thursday (July 18th) agreed to form a joint technical committee, set timetables and draft an agreement for implementing a power connection project between the Gulf states’ power grid and Europe’s through Jordan and Egypt, the Jordan Times reported.

During meetings in Amman, Jordanian Energy Minister Hala Zawati highlighted the importance of the scheme in enhancing the stability of the Arab electric system and achieving energy integration, a ministry statement said.

Zawati stressed the positive practical and economic impacts of the venture on Jordan, and called for speeding up procedures to implement the project.
