Egypt, US discuss military co-operation, fight against terror

Egypt's Minister of Defence Mohamed Zaki met on Tuesday (June 11th) in Cairo with US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Gen. Kenneth McKenzie Jr., where they discussed boosting military co-operation, the Egyptian Armed Forces said in a statement.

Zaki discussed with McKenzie efforts to end terrorism and achieve security and stability in Egypt and in the Middle East, Egypt's Ahram Online reported.

Zaki stressed that the war on terrorism in the region requires co-operation with the international community to end terrorist organisations and their sources of funding.

The minister also said he looks forward to more co-operation between Egypt and the US in the security and defence fields.

McKenzie stressed his country's support for Egypt in the fight against terrorism in North and Central Sinai, hailing the deeply-rooted strategic relations between the two countries.

Egypt's Chief-of-Staff Mohamed Farid also met with Gen. McKenzie on Tuesday where they discussed boosting military co-operation and joint exercises between the two countries.
