Jordan’s Prince Hassan says military ifta departments have enlightenment role

Jordan’s Prince Hassan, president of the Arab Thought Forum, on Saturday (October 20th) highlighted the role of military ifta departments in spreading tolerance and co-existence, the Jordanian news agency, Petra, reported.

Speaking at the 34th annual conference of the Military Ifta Department, Hassan said the absence of "shura" (consultation) among the various Islamic schools was the main reason behind the emergence of sub-identities at the expense of the wider, inclusive Islamic identity.

Hassan underlined the importance of empowering and rehabilitating imams and preachers to be a model in strengthening the national identity and citizenship.

He also called for reconsidering and improving contemporary Islamic discourse in order to make it deeper and more focused on inclusive values.
