Egypt army officer killed in Sinai roadside blast

An Egyptian army captain has been killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in North Sinai during a campaign to eliminate the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS), AFP reported Monday (August 20th).

The officer died Sunday evening after an explosion hit his vehicle west of the provincial capital of al-Arish, a local medical source said.

The Egyptian army has since February been conducting Operation Sinai 2018, targeting ISIS elements in the peninsula.
